Causes of a white mini-map and how to fix

if the mini-map of a tileset is displaying all white(blank) what could be causing this and how can it be fixed?

i still check in periodically on this place to see how things are going. most discussion of dealing with tilesets are like reading technical journals for a hyperfusion generator something or other but sometimes i get the idea of whats going on.

tight spaced tunnels in my opinion are lacking in variety. the only good one i have found is included with HotU but it has its limitations due its climate and lack of vertical options(up/down).
