I need to make some minimaps for my ruins. I'm contemplating taking screen shots of each tile, reducing the size and using them as minimaps..has anyone else done this?

I could be barking completely up the wrong tree here, but I vaguely remeber DLA talking about a tool to do that automatically.

if you're using max, the easiest way I've found is to just render a top view as a tga with an alpha channel (assuming you have all the tiles in one file) then just paste them into photoshop, trim the edges and reduce.

If you are using 3dsmax (not GMAX) there is a minimap maker tool in Veltools. it takes a dir with MDLs and produces minimaps for you, along with door icons. just make sure all your objects have UVs, otherwise the renderer will stop with an error message.

I now officially have no excuse not to install Veltools.

Well...using gmax, and that portion of Vel's tools has been disabled...
I'll have to use another method...
