Roses and magic


Melocia was enjoying a restful time at home when there was a knock at her door. she opened it up as Ilthara barged in explaining all kinds of things about roses and magic she needed someone powerful in magic. About that time Gabriel and Paetyr showed up with merago in tow. mel listen to them as they gawked at all the strange things in mels appartment. She went to her lab and pulled some scrolls and such from the bookshelf. ithara asked if she ever wanted an apprentice. Her face turned red a moment and Mel explained to her for now that she was concentrateing on getting into the morzelmore mage guild and trying to help dragonkin non-dragonkin relations. Perhaps in the near future.

Not knowing exactly what was going on Mel followed them down to the park and into a cave. Mel started getting suspisious when they came to a wall. Didnt this wall mean something before now what was it. there was some kind of illusion on it yes. Her eyes narrowed abit suspisious as to what was going on then he appeared, The halfling in white. The first thing she said was he was an illusion and asked if they wanted to hear it. most said no so mel tried to dispell the illusion with her staff first. the image flickered but stayed. the halfling laughed at her. * you'll have to do alot better than that melocia*. That angered her a bit so she used her own magic. The magic that only an arch mage can hold within themselves and tried to dispell the image herself. Again the halfling laughed and flickered longer."Good try Melocia but you still cant dispell me yet". Mel gave up and ignored him the rest of his short stay and concentrated on the wall. She found a small seam at first and tugged on it only to come up with a hand full of rock. she went into the corner and rested reading her journal for a certain powerful spell. when she had rested fully she told everyone to back up.

She threw a full force mordekainen's Disjunction on the wall the effects were trememdous those around her loosing a few magic items to the dispelling effect. the illusion partially dispelled could be seen by all to be an illusion they all walked though it.

They came to a long series of tunnels full of beholders, battle devourers, driders and more of the creatures of underdark. melocia stayed back a bit throwing horrid wilting and other powerful spells weakening the creatures so the others not well as trained could defeat the them. At last they came to a small room with two light shafts. Mel called Penny to guard the room while Gabriel and Merago took a look around. Paetyr put the roses in the light shaft and some prisons making the roses float about head high within the shafts of light. there was scroll all along the walls in celestrial, elven, infernal,abysmal, and sylvan

Mel translated some but she noticed there was a powerful defense magic within the words and stopped. if she read them without some form of absortion device she could completely destroy the room. Penny got bored and left as gabriel and merago came back from their scouting.

Mel came up with a plan they got together and found out what languages who knew. Melocia would stand between the roses while others threw the incantations at her and her staff. but would it work? she looked around and quickly decided she was the only one that could handle such power within the group and try to contol it. she looked at her staff of the archmage, gulped and stood between the roses.


Melocia stood there concentrating on Ilthara. She was the first to read the incantations. As she read the first part and focused on Mels staff Mel focused on her. Powerful magics surged from the wall that only mel could see hitting her staff full force driving her will back. she concentrated when it was done mels staff and fingers tingled with energies.

ilthara looked at mel and nodded. Mel seemed unaffected. She read the secound part of the incantation. Again power flew out and hit mel full force her mind saged under the violation of odd magics but she held together. her fingers turned hot with energy. her ears rung and her staff vibrated violently in her hands. she set her staff in front of her and leaned on it heavily then nodded to ilthara.

The last part of iltharas incantation was in celestrial as she read a blinding light came out of the wall and hit the staff the powerful magic almost made mel fall she was blind and the staff almost jumped out of her hand. she concentrated on siphoning the magic out of the staff and into herself as much as possible she could fell it only vaugely.

Afte the energy ran though her she started to fall but Paetyr caught her and held her up. Mel exclaimed" Now I wonder why I didnt chose sorcery instead of wizardry"

She had a few minutes to rest as Gabriel stepped forward. Mel knew this would be much much worse she never fully understood the energys of the lower planes now she must absorb them. Gabriel started to read. instead of coming out of the wall, energys came up from the floor engulfing mel in black tentrils she almost passed out as the staff took in the energy and fed a small part to her that had overloaded it. she gasp for air and sagged deeper into paetrys arms. after an eternity of pain it stopped.

Holding on, barely aware of reality mel waited and got another rest as gabriel struggled with the abysmal language. He started reading Phantom demons lashed out at her and her staff. The energy was emmense. Mel stuggled to keep a hold of the staff as one after another the demon phantoms were absorbed into the staff and into her. when at last she stopped she feinted burned and bruised with the magic she had taken in. Paetyr gently set her on the floor to rest and guarded her while the others made plans for what to do next.
